The History of Minnesota Wild Hockey

Born in the heart of hockey country in the year 2000, the Minnesota Wild captivated crowds with a fast-paced, offensive-minded style of play. A trip to the playoffs after their inaugural season helped them capture the hearts of fans and set the foundation for a brilliant future.

The team's early success culminated in a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2003, showcasing their potential to compete against the NHL's elite teams. In the years since, they’ve made it to the playoffs more than a dozen times, with their most impressive showings in 2014 and 2015.

Recently, Minnesota has undergone a strategic shift, adopting a more puck-possession style of play that emphasizes control and defensive responsibility. This strategic evolution has paid dividends, and a blend of experienced veterans and rising stars has the Wild poised to make a deep playoff run. You can be there for the next big moment! Get your Wild tickets today.

The Wild Hockey Schedule

The schedule is filled with thrilling matchups against some of the NHL's most iconic teams. As a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference, they face fierce rivalries with the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. These divisional duels are always electrifying, with each team vying for supremacy in the Central.

Elsewhere in the Western Conference, meetings with the Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, and Winnipeg Jets provide opportunities for the Wild to test their mettle against some of the league's most formidable opponents.

Cross-conference matchups offer a unique dynamic, pitting the Wild against teams with different playing styles and traditions. The Eastern Conference brings the likes of the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Xcel Energy Center Information

The Xcel Energy Center is a true hockey haven that opened in 2000 to accommodate the Wild’s arrival. With a capacity of 17,954, the arena is a vibrant hub of entertainment, hosting everything from premier concerts to Disney on Ice.

Seating

We offer detailed seating charts to help you find the best views, but the locations around mid-ice are typically the most desirable. The Wild’s bench is at Section 117, and Section 116 is situated behind the visitors’ bench.

Ticket holders in the first row in sections around the bowl can watch through glass windows, just like the players in the penalty box in front of Sections 103 and 104. Glass seating comes with exclusive access to the On the Glass Club, as well as all-inclusive dining options and complimentary beer, wine, and soft drinks.

Shoot-twice seating spans the west side of the venue, including Sections 105–115 on the main level and 206–217 on the upper tier. Families should consider Sections 201, 207, 208, and 215, and those looking for a party might find it in Sections 119 and 120.

Parking

Official parking lots are conveniently located near the arena:

  • Kellogg Ramp - Lot #150 (0.1 miles)

  • RiverCentre Parking Ramp - Lot #149 (0.2 miles)

  • Smith Avenue Transit Center - Lot #151 (0.3 miles)

  • Lawson Ramp (0.4 miles)

  • Kellogg Underground Parking (0.1 miles)

There should be ample options to accommodate fans, but to be safe, we recommend reserving parking passes when you purchase your Kings tickets.

Alternative Transportation

Metro Transit's Green Line serves the downtown St. Paul area, with the Central Station within walking distance of the Xcel Energy Center. Buses provide additional transportation, including lines 21, 54, and 94. Riders can pay with cash or use contactless payment methods such as the Go-To Card or the Metro Transit app. Check the Metro Transit website for the most up-to-date information.

Ready for Your Wild Game?

Attending a Minnesota Wild game is an unforgettable experience, a sensory overload of sights, sounds, and emotions. The arena crackles with anticipation as the lights dim and an epic highlight video fills the Jumbotron.

The roar of the crowd erupts as players take the ice, their skates slicing through the fresh surface as they prepare to unleash their offensive fury. The puck flies back and forth, the tension rising as each team vies for control.

Whether you're a die-hard supporter or a first-time enthusiast, being part of the crowd at the Xcel Energy Center is a must. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your Wild tickets and immerse yourself in the electrifying atmosphere of Minnesota hockey!
